Thyroid issues go by many names, but sometimes surgery is necessary. The surgeons at Cross Timbers ENT have performed thousands of thyroid procedures on both benign (non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous) glands. We understand when surgery is needed—and equally important, when it’s best to wait. Many thyroid conditions do not require surgery, and we take the time to fully explain when surgical management is appropriate and what the procedure involves. Using modern techniques, including the harmonic scalpel and continuous nerve monitoring, we minimize the risk of complications such as post-surgical hoarseness.
Located behind the thyroid are four small glands called the parathyroids. Occasionally, one or more of these glands produce too much parathyroid hormone (PTH), leading to elevated calcium levels. Often, surgery is the most effective treatment. At Cross Timbers ENT, we use minimally invasive techniques to identify the problematic gland and employ advanced technology, including rapid PTH testing, to maximize the success of the procedure.
